Rare Microsoft profit warning causes fall

Microsoft's stock value has been dramatically hit by its recent, and rare, profit warning. For the first time in its 14 years as a publicly traded company, Microsoft issued a profit warning at the end of last week, in the wake of fears about slowing sales of consumer PCs and the weakness of online advertising to support its MSN Internet operations. BSA wants damages for unlicensed software use

The Business Software Alliance has called for a change in UK law that would allow it to claim damages from companies that use unlicensed software. Under current legislation, any firm found to have unlicensed software generally escapes without punishment, as long as they pay the requisite licence fees. The BSA, an international body representing the interests of software developers, wants to be able to ask judges to fine these firms. ...more
