DDR2 sees low yields at 0.11, sluggish sales

Except for Samsung Electronics' sales to Dell, shipments by chipmakers of DDR2 DRAM to PC OEMs are still low because the yield rates at 0.11-micron process technology are still too low to provide a consistent chip supply, according to sources. Even though Intel is pushing the adoption of PCI-express, which supports DDR2, by cutting prices of its 915 chipsets, PC OEMs are currently unwilling to adopt DDR2 on a broad scale until chipmakers can ramp yield rates above 80%, sources with chipmakers said. ...more
