AMD outlines its quad-core computing

AMD has been revealing details of its technology roadmap, specifically what lies ahead with quad-core computing. Scheduled to appear in the first half of 2007 - first for servers, but then rolled out across AMD desktop and laptop offerings - this will be the next step for AMD multi-core processing. BT charges users over its mistakes

British Telecom is to bill thousands of Internet users after discovering that it had been inadvertently providing them with truly free Internet access. Some of BT's telephone exchanges had failed to recognise the 0845 numbers used by subscribers to connect, and instead registered them as dialling a free 0800 number. Despite admitting that the whole affair has been due to its own mistakes, the telecom company still "needs to recoup the money", which is estimated to amount to around ?5 million. ...more

London to get additional 020 3 range of telephone numbers in 2005

London telephone subscribers who have seen a bewildering number of changes to their numbering system over the years are facing another change in a year's time. Telecoms regulator OfCom has announced that a new 020 3 range of numbers be added to the London area in 2005. Overclocked PCs blamed for Windows crashes

The practice of overclocking PCs has been blamed for an unusually high number of reported Windows crashes. Raymond Chen, a Microsoft Windows developer, has revealed that Microsoft received a series of crash reports containing errors which, he said, 'made no sense whatsoever'. Misleading apps gathering for Christmas security threat

If you're looking for a Christmas present for a computer-using friend, beware of the host of misleading security applications around warning of infected systems and promising a clean up, at a price. Antispyware company Sunbelt software is picking up new sites, designed to dupe users into downloading and paying for software that is ineffective as a security tool and often a threat in itself.
