Blueyonder afflicted by service outage

Most of Telewest's Blueyonder Internet services were unavailable for some time yesterday and continue to be affected after a 'network fault' blocked access to the company's servers. Blueyonder services including Selfcare, webmail and email were affected, though the company said that since then access has 'greatly improved' but could still be 'slow and intermittent'. Toshiba trumpets new multimedia laptop

Toshiba has announced a multimedia notebook that uses advanced technology it is hoping will make it the 'must-have' laptop. Part of that strategy is a change in the way it licences its technology. Mozilla has released a first beta of Thunderbird 2, the next generation of its standalone email client. A redesigned visual theme introduces the new Message Tags features - custom tags that can be added to messages and combined with saved searches and mail views to make it easier to organise email - as well as numerous improvements to existing features. The changes involve: Session History Navigation (back and forward buttons allow navigation through message history); extensions support (extensions can now add custom columns to the message list pane in addition to storing custom message data in the mail database); and notification alerts (new mail alerts include information such as the subject, sender and message text); and find as you type. ...more

Shocking flaw in ShockWave installer

A highly critical vulnerability, which could be exploited to compromise a user's system, has been discovered in the installer for the Macromedia ShockWave Player.
