Online music stores dent teens' p2p habit

Commercial music stores such as iTunes are having an effect on the music downloading habits of teenagers according to a survey by Piper Jaffray. The investment bank found that 36 per cent of US teens bought their music from online services in 2006, up from 28 per cent the previous year. Kaspersky looking to go public to fund expansion

Security specialist Kaspersky Labs is is looking to expand rapidly next year, even mooting the possibility of the compaany going public. The privately-held Moscow-based company has plans to reach beyond its stronghold in Russia and Europe to hit the US and China markets next year. Music publishers are restricting online growth - DiMA

The head of the body that represents online music services has said that music publishers' demands are restricting the growth of the industry. Jonathan Potter, director of DiMA, the Digital Media Association, said that unless publishers accept a smaller share of the digital music pie for songwriters, the online services will not be able to cut prices in order to better compete with the 'free' music available on p2p file sharing networks.
