Euro police raid 80 homes in crack down on child pornography

An alleged child pornography ring has been smashed according to Europol. A combined operation involving six EU member states searched around 80 house and made a number of arrests. The operation, called 'Icebreaker II' carried out raids in France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK following investigation and surveilliance of chat rooms and bulletin boards led by Italy's Carabinieri police. ...more

Company develops paper-like LCDs

We've already covered electronic ink on this site, but now an LCD manufacturer has developed a screen that has the familiarity of paper. Three-Five Systems has developed "paperwhite" LCD screens, a high contrast screen that mimics the look of ink on paper, and hopes that PDA manufacturers will want to implement this technology into their machines. "Through improved fluid technology and cell construction, we have designed a display with a high degree of contrast and a black and white look that enhances users' viewability," explained Rob Harrison, Three-Five's vice president of Direct View Displays. ...more

Adobe acquires DVD authoring technology

Adobe has announced an agreement to license DVD authoring technology in order to create a professional DVD authoring application. The agreement with Sonic Solutions will allow Adobe to use the technology that underpins Sonic's market-leading systems for DVD-video production, including the AuthorScript formatting engine.
