Sasser and Phatbot worm writers arrested in Germany

German police have confirmed that on Friday they arrested a teenager in connection with the outbreak of the `Sasser` worm. Sven Jaschen, 18, from Lower Saxony is also reported to have been responsible for all 28 versions of the 'Netsky' worm which has been causing havoc in the world's PCs since February. In a seemingly related move, the police in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg have arrested a 21-year-old man who is said to be behind `Agobot` and later as `Phatbot` worms. ...more

The European Commission has announced that it is to investigate the recent purchase by Microsoft and Time Warner of ContentGuard, a specialist in digital rights management. Europe has undertaken a preliminary investigation into the acquisition and is concerned that Microsoft may be building a monopoly in DRM which is set to become a key technology in the coming years.
