April showers backdoor viruses

Trend Micro has issued its virus roundup for April, indicating that virus numbers continue to escalate and increasingly use backdoor components to allow attackers access to personal information. The antivirus company said that it had detected 1700 new viruses in the month - 500 more than in March and 1300 more than in December. Perhaps more cncerning however is the increased proportion that install backdoors on infected systems to give attackers remote access - some 60 per cent. ...more

Security concerns holding back mobile computing - Symantec

Security and storage giant Symantec claims that cyber attack concerns are the biggest turn-off for businesses considering rolling out wireless and remote computing. Ollie Whitehouse, wireless research scientist at Symantec, said that while many businesses have had a mobile workforce for some time, the devices used have escalated in power and hence risk. UK grabs lion's share of pirated TV

The popularity of US shows has made the UK the largest downloader of illegal copies of TV programmes. According to new research by Envisional the 150 per cent rise in copying in the last year is a result of increased bandwidth, new technology such as DVD recorders and the fact that copies of shows are on the Internet hours after they are shown in the US but months before they make it to the UK.
