Cost conscious young shun mobile downloads

According to a new report, even though fifty per cent of young people in the UK already pay for music downloads, only three per cent do it on their phones because of the cost. While 45 per cent of the 1,500 respondents, all between the ages of 11 to 25, don't pay to download music, 30 per cent pay up to ?5 a month and the rest pay more, said the report, by market research firm Q Research. 'Disappointed' GSMA holds MPEG-4 off mobiles

The dispute over MPEG-4 licensing for mobile devices is no nearer a resolution after the GSM Association rejected new terms. The GSMA - which represents some 800 GSM network operators and device makers - described MPEG LA's revised licensing fees for its Open Mobile Alliance's Digital Rights Management technology for MPEG-4 content as a 'serious disappointment'. Poor results push Palm back

Palm's latest financial results have forced the company to delay launches and the spin off of its PalmSource subsidiary. Following Palm's downwards revised estimates for third-quarter revenues, the company has posted revenues towards the upper end of the guidance at just over $209m. EC proposes hotline for public to report illegal Internet content

The European Commission has proposed introducing hotlines to allow the public to report illegal content on the internet. The proposal, to be known as Safer Internet Plus, is part of a planned four-year EU initiative to fight the dangers of child pornography, racism and spam on the internet.
