Twentieth Century Fox lines up movie and TV downloads

Twentieth Century Fox has announced that it will begin selling movie and television show downloads in the US through its parent company's digital arm, Fox Interactive Media (FIM). IGN Entertainment will be the first FIM subsidiary to offer a selection of download-to-own content, already having an online distribution model for selling PC games (Direct2Drive), complete with the obligatory DRM. Record labels keep up the heat on file sharers

Riding high after their somewhat unexpected court victory against P2P software makers, US record labels and movie studios are turning their thoughts to BitTorrent. The software, developed by Bram Cohen, is particularly popular for swapping movies, as it splits larger files into smaller sections that download more quickly as the separate parts can be simultaneously uploaded by multiple users. Microsoft urges November security patch action

Microsoft is urging its customers to install its November security fixes, after discovering exploit code aimed at attacking the vulnerabilities patched. Released just days ago, many businesses and consumers should have already installed the latest round of security bulletins, but Microsoft does not want to take any chances and has issued an advisory detailing the new threat. It says that although there is public proof of concept code targeting the vulnerability, there is no evidence as yet that this is being used in any form of attack. ...more

Cybercrime massively under-reported warn law agencies

Law enforcement agencies are only equipped to tackle the tip of the cybercrime iceberg, according to a panel of experts speaking at the InfoSecurity conference in London today. The panel agreed that electronic crime was only at the bottom of an exponential curve and that many such crimes go unreported and unprosecuted because there is no agreed protocol for doing so. Belgian scoops Apple's Grand Prize

A Belgian classical music fan scooped Apple's Grand Prize for making the 100 millionth download from the European iTunes Music Stores. Ken Reist from Steenokkerzeel purchased Mozart's The Magic Flute on Monday evening and for his 99 cents will receive an iMac, iPod and 10,000 free iTunes songs.
