Amazon goes to the movies

Amazon may be about to launch a film and TV downloads service according to the New York Times which says that the online retailer is holding talks with three Hollywood movie studios. Paramount, Universal and Warner Brothers are said to be interested, according to the NYT's anonymous source. Flash security hole revealed

A security hole has been found in versions of Macromedia's Flash Player running on Unix and Windows systems. The breach, discovered by EEye, allows hackers to bypass firewalls and read files on a computer by creating a 'malformed header' within Flash (.swf) files. ...more

Many children from poorer backgrounds are finding themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide. Not only are such children less likely to have access to the Internet, they may find a lack of early exposure to electronic information systems could damage their career prospects later. Netscape market share drops 40 per cent

Netscape's share of the Web browser market has fallen from 12 to seven per cent over the past seven months according to new figures. StatMarket.com reports that Netscape's share, which had remained fairly steady, has fallen since the release of Internet Explorer (IE) 6, which can now claim 30 per cent of Internet users. ...more

AMD stays hand over ATi brand axe

Our sister publication Custom PC discovered yesterday that a number of AMD and ATi staff had understood the ATi brand was to be dropped. However, AMD has backtracked on that position, saying no such decision has been made and that it maintains a strong commitment to the ATi brand.
