Ofcom broadens dialler rules to allow legal action

Ofcom has published new proposals to increase consumer protection against rogue Internet diallers. Existing Premium Rate Services regulation applies to diallers using 09 premium rate or international numbers. Ofcom is proposing to extend these requirements to enable ICSTIS, the premium rate regulator, to take action against any rogue dialler irrespective of the telephone number used or the call charges involved. ...more

Another international record body targets music file sharers

The record industry has launched its latest batch of legal attacks on unauthorised file sharing, as evidence grows that the practice does not have the detrimental effect on music sales that the industry claims. Following several rounds of lawsuits by the RIAA in the US and last week's announcement of action by the UK's BPI, the record labels' international body, the IFPI, has announced 247 lawsuits in Denmark, Germany, Italy and Canada.
