SCO is to offer its existing Linux customers its Unix IP licence for free, and has removed its Linux downloads from public access Following its very public attack on the legal standing of the GPL licence, under which Linux is distributed, SCO has removed Linux code on its site from public access, and asked its existing Linux customers to re-register all products to get a password for access. The reward is a free Unix IP licence. Sony recalls Vaio laptops over electric shock concern

Research analysts have reported a strong growth in PC shipments for markets in Europe and the Middle-East. According to the latest figures from Canalys, total PC shipments for the last three months of 2004 rose 17 per cent when compared with the same a period a year ago. Federation Against Software Theft wins big settlement

The UK-based Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) as won a cash settlement of almost ?300,000 against a US chemical transportation organisation. The unnamed company was reported to FAST by one of its members, Achiever Business Solutions (ABS), following the discovery of suspected unlicensed use of ABS software.
