BT Yahoo! trumps Gmail with 2GB email accounts

BT Yahoo! has announced that all its broadband and most of its dial up customers will now get 2GB of email storage, 40 times the previous 50MB limit. Secondary accounts will also grow from 10 to 100MB. Other changes to the service include better sorting of webmail: 'greenlists' to ensure any emails from the people listed in the recipient's address book will get delivered to the inbox and not to the bulk mail folder, and changes to bulk email handling. ...more

UK owner of Gmail trademark keeps up legal fight

The UK company that claims ownership of the Gmail trademark is preparing to take further legal action against Google after talks between the two companies failed to reach an agreement. Independent International Investment Research (IIIR) began negotiations with Google 16 months ago after the US search company unveiled its Gmail Web-based email service. IIIR claims a prior right to the trademark as the name of the webmail component of its Pronet software suite, which was first released in May 2002. ...more

RealNetworks makes mobile moves

RealNetworks has made moves to put its RealSystem iQ content delivery system at the forefront of new mobile technologies. It has today joined the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as a voting member and the packet-switched multimedia specification group, SA4, confirming its intention to play a prominent role in the emerging third-generation mobile markets. Microsoft has launched a campaign touting research and case studies that it claims prove 'Windows has a lower total cost of ownership and outperforms Linux'. Lynne Truss, author of the surprise best selling book about punctuation pedantry, has launched a website to collect examples of erroneous grammar. The writer of Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation said that since the book was published in 2003, people have continually approached her with examples of poor punctuation, prompting her to begin collecting them online.
