UK Online has announced that its 8Mbps ADSL broadband service is now available through 33 exchanges in the UK. Nokia remains king of the mobile device market

Nokia continues to be the world's favourite mobile device manufacturer even though it faces a strong challenge from PalmOne in the US. According to the latest survey by industry analysts Canalys, Nokia's market share for mobile devices was almost three million units representing almost 40 per cent of total worldwide shipments. Lindows wins latest round over misuse of 'windows' trademark

A court in the US has thrown out Microsoft`s appeal over whether the word 'windows' in generic. The full hearing of the case is now likely to take place towards the end of this year. The appeal followed a ruling in February in which the presiding Judge Coughenour ruled that part of the case will rest on whether a jury decides that the word 'windows' was generic before the launch of Microsoft Windows 1. ...more

Visionary work for silicon

A microchip implant into the eyes of three blind men could restore their vision. A tiny microchip, implanted underneath the retina at the back of the eye, converts light signals to electrical pulses that the brain can interpret as visual stimuli, or at least that's the plan. The chips, developed by Alan Chow, a paediatric ophthalmologist, were implanted in the eyes of a 72-year-old man and 59-year-old twins last week and show no signs of being rejected. ...more
