BT plans 1,000-exchange SDSL expansion

BT Wholesale is to equip a further 1,000 exchanges with SDSL broadband in a 12 month programme beginning in April 2005. SCO says contract amendment shows Unix is ours

SCO has published clauses from an amendment to the 1995 contract through which it purchased Unix from Novell, which it claims clarifies that the sale was to include copyrights and patents. The amendment, which was made a year later in October 1996, was signed by representatives of both SCO and Novell and says that part of the original contract which described assets excluded from the transfer of Unix assets, be revised to read: 'All copyrights and trademarks, except for the copyrights and trademarks owned by Novell as of the date of the Agreement required for SCO to exercise it rights with respect to the acquisition of UNIX and UnixWare technologies. However, in no event shall Novell be liable to SCO for any claim brought by any third party pertaining to said copyrights and trademarks. ...more

TK Maxx admits hacker's theft of data from 45.6 million credit cards

Fashion retailer TK Maxx has revealed that hackers have stolen credit card information for 45.6 million of its customers in the UK, US and Canada. The company said that the hacker had accessed its data centres in Watford and Massachusetts and stole details of four years of transactions up to December of last year. ...more

MPs bid to update venerable Computer Misuse Act

The results of an investigation into updating the venerable Computer Misuse Act (CMA) have been published and will be pushed to form a Bill as early as November this year. The inquiry, initiated by the All Party Internet Group (APIG), set out a number of recommendations that would make the pre-Internet 1990 CMA more relevant to tackle the digital crimes of today.
