Security specialist Symantec Corp has announced that it will be launching a new range of anti-virus products for handhelds. The software aims to protect Palm OS and Microsoft Pocket PC PDAs from attacks by viruses, worms and other malicious code. Warner issues warning to publishers: 'The bad games are over'

Warner Brothers Interactive is set to hit videogame publishers that have licensed its brands with extra costs if games based on those brands don't come up to standards it will set. According to an article on The Hollywood Reporter website, in an effort to maintain a high level of quality amongst WBI brand-based games, the company is adding a new clause to contracts - any publisher producing a WBI licensed title which receives an average review score of under 70 percent will have to cough up extra royalty fees. Yahoo! opens Site Explorer for webmasters

Yahoo! is launching a new service aimed at webmasters to help them analyse what the search engine sees when it looks through a site to add it to its index. In a similar vein to the Google's Sitemaps service, launched in June, Site Explorer from Yahoo! lets a webmaster submit a URL and then returns all the links Yahoo! currently holds within its index. The webmaster can then sort these links in different ways, and add URLs for Yahoo!'s search bots to crawl and associate with the site, when they do their rounds looking for new content. ...more

New rural broadband trial

BT is to trial a new rural broadband initiative that could enable exchanges serving as few as 16 users. The trials will employ new broadband ADSL equipment to link users to BT's Internet networks, equipment which can be deployed in much smaller units than at present. The six-month trials will be carried out in conjunction with various 'sponsors - regional development agencies, local authorities and IT consultancies, who will contribute ?7000 towards the project. ...more
