Microsoft funds underprivileged access to hi-tech

Microsoft is to underwrite a $100m project to give underprivileged children access to computer technology. The "Club Tech" project will set up technology centres in Boys & Girls Clubs across the US, giving access to computers and training material to over 3 million youngsters. According to The New York Times, Club Tech will be funded through Microsoft's Community Affairs Program and will be its largest donation so far - last year it gave more than $34m in cash and $200m in software to charitable organisations. ...more

Borland warns of loss on Q1 earnings

Software developer Borland has warned the markets that it expects to post a loss for the first quarter of 2003. The warning comes ahead of the full results which are expected at the end of April The company says it expects revenue for the first quarter to be in the range of $72 to $75 million, an increase of 26 per cent to 31 per cent over revenue of $57.1 million reported for the first quarter of 2002, but below the company's previous target of $77 - $83 million. ...more

Greenpeace ejected from MacExpo

Greenpeace was yesterday thrown out of MacExpo, after the organisers said that they had received complaints about the activities of activists for the environmental campaign group. Visitors to the show reportedly objected to the large number of activists who were leafleting at the entrance to London's Olympia exhibition centre, while companies, including Apple, are said to have been unhappy with their antics inside the venue. Greenpeace recently attacked Apple for its use of toxic chemicals in its products and 'poor' performance on take back and recycling. ...more

UK games chart: Spartan: Total Warrior scales the charts

EA's multi-format football game FIFA 06 keeps the number one spot for the third week running in the ELSPA UK games chart. And there's not much room at the top because EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, holds its position at number two, with Sega's Spartan: Total Warrior (pictured) climbing from eight to three.
