MEPs reject CMBA copyright requests

The European Parliament appears to have rejected calls to include copyright infringement among the activities that may be investigated under the forthcoming EU data retention laws. MEPs decided to dismiss a request by the Creative Media and Business Alliance (CMBA), a collection of record and movie companies and trade bodies. The organisation was asking them to modify the proposed laws so that stored data could be used to investigate any offence, not just the 32 crimes that the EU classifies as 'serious': terrorism, murder, drug trafficking and human trafficking. ...more

Intel claims quad-core first with new Xeons and Core 2 Extreme chips

Intel has gone quad-core. Specifically, Quad-Core Intel Xeons will address the server and workstation markets while the Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor is aimed at the desktop. Legal experts unveil UK version of the Creative Commons licence

Respected intellectual property expert Lawrence Lessig unveiled a UK version of the Creative Commons licence in London yesterday. The Professor of Law at Stanford University is working with the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy at Oxford University on creating a 'UK port' of the Creative Commons licenses.
