Apple to split stock two for one

Apple's board has approved a two-for-one split of the company's shares, increasing the number of common shares from 900 million to 1.8 billion. Registered shareholders at the close of business on 18 February, will receive an extra share for each one they hold although it won't actually add to the value of their holding (the value of the stock is adjusted so that the total capitalization of the company remains the same). ...more

Toshiba and NEC launch High Definition DVD showcase

Toshiba, NEC and disc manufacturer Memory-Tech have highlighted their HD DVD format at a three day showcase in Tokyo. The companies are hoping High Definition DVD will become the de facto standard as the successor to today's DVD. Sony sets UK Blu-ray launch date

Sony is to introduce the first wave of Blu-ray titles this autumn to coincide with the launch of the hardware beyond North America. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment says it will be expanding its Blu-Ray operations to Europe, Japan, Australia and Korea.
