Mobile operators seek new phone standard

Mobile operators are ganging together to lay down the law for future mobile operating systems. In a sign that the balance of power is shifting away from manufacturers such as Nokia and Motorola to network companies like Vodafone and Orange, a range of mobile networks have rallied under the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) to build a framework of requirements for a handset platform that better serves their needs.
