SCO: IBM is an 'unknown software developer'

Groklaw has published one of the warning letters SCO sent out to top commercial users of the Linux operating system: its contents portray a vastly different development process for the Linux kernel than that outlined by the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) yesterday. The letter - ironically that received by IBM - describes commercial software as built by 'carefully selected and screened teams of programmers,' as opposed to the Linux kernel 'built from contributions by numerous unrelated and unknown software developers, each contributing a small section of code.' Referring to IBM as an 'unknown software developer' is an odd slight to make when you're at the same time alleging that the company 'misappropriated' copyright Unix code by contributing it to the Linux kernel. ...more

Bluetooth to go mobile in Far East

Two mobile Internet schemes utilising the wireless Bluetooth system are to be introduced in Japan by Ericsson and Hewlett-Packard. The first scheme is headed by Ericsson and will see Bluetooth services being made available at one of West Japan Railway Company's railway stations and on one of its bullet trains. PlusNet lifts data caps on broadband

PlusNet has announced that it is to raise the data usage ceilings for its PAYG Basic, Plus and Premier customers. From 1 August 2006, the included peak-time usage for the PAYG Basic service will rise from 50MB to 450MB. Plus peak time usage rises from 3GB to 4GB for Option 1, 5GB to 7GB for Option 2 and 8GB to 11GB for Option 3. ...more
