Attackers find new flaw in Microsoft's old Word

Microsoft has said that its Word software is subject to a flaw which is already being attacked by hackers. An attacker would have to create a specially modified Word document that the target would have to be persuaded to open. However, Microsoft is providing very little detail as to the nature of the flaw, which affects most currently supported versions of the application, from Word 2000 to 2003, Works 2004 to 2006, Word Viewer 2003, and Word 2004 and 2004 vX for Macs. ...more

Real welcomes EU Microsoft decision

Real Networks has welcomed the EU's decision to force Microsoft to release a version of Windows without a bundled media player. In a statement Bob Kimball, Real's vice president and general counsel said, 'This decision is fundamentally significant because the European Commission has formally declared that Microsoft's media player bundling strategy is illegal and has established the guideposts for future bundling cases. Apple adds shared drive support to AirPort Extreme

Apple has quietly added support for sharing a USB hard drive across a wireless network to the redesigned AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi base station introduced earlier this week. The AirPort Disk feature turns an external USB hard drive into a shared drive just as soon as it is connected to the base station's USB port. Dreamcast goes back in the box

After a number of rumours, Sega has announced that it will be teaming up with Pace Micro Technology to develop a set-top box. The new product will be 100 per cent compatible with existing Dreamcast software and will feature a high capacity hard drive and broadband connection. The source code for its implementation of C# and the .NET CLI (Common Language Infrastructure) has been made available by Microsoft.
