Following an agreement between Intel and Wave Systems, security software and services could in future be bundled with an Intel desktop motherboard. Internet portal Yahoo! has finally announced its long-awaited move into the blogging arena. Russian computers may be susceptible to a new virus concealed in bitmap images

The virus is a Trojan - named Agent - that infects computers running the Russian edition of Windows 2000 with IE 5 and 5.5 when the victim clicks on a bitmap image attached in an email. Microsoft has yet to issue a patch for the flaw in the handling of bitmap images, according to Kaspersky - a Russian antivirus company - and it has been exploited as a direct result of the leak of part of the Windows source code. ...more

FTC reports spam in decline

The US Federal Trade Commission says that the controversial CAN-SPAM Act is working. In a report on the working of the anti-spam Act, the Commission says there has been a steady decline in the amount of junk email which fills the world's inboxes. The FTC quotes email filtering firm MX Logic as reporting that during the first eight months of 2005, spam accounted for 67 per cent of email passing through its system, a nine per cent decrease from the same period one year earlier. ...more
