EU pushes for public funding for broadband in the wilds

In a speech today at the eEurope Workshop on broadband regional and local initiatives, Erkki Liikanen, commissioner for Enterprise and the Information Society, stressed that public sector intervention has an important role to play in getting broadband access to the more remote areas of the EU. A group of 145 companies who develop consumer electronics products have joined together to form the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA). The group, formerly known as the Digital Home Working Group (DHWG) aims to agree a common set of standards which will allow products to work together.
