AMD previews Pacifica virtualisation platform

AMD has previewed its virtualization technology codenamed 'Pacifica' at its AMD Reviewer's Day in Austin, Texas. The BBC has added a new section to its website that is designed to help people with disabilities get more out of the Web. My Web, My Way provides the tools and information needed to use the Internet for people with a recognised disability - visual, hearing, motor, cognitive or learning impairment - and also for those who have a lesser problem that they may not consider a disability but still affects their ability to surf freely. The site has separate guides for Windows, Mac and Linux users with information of configuring your browser and mouse and keyboard settings and links to additional software such as screen readers for the visually impaired. ...more

3G auctions shelved in Singapore

The bidding war for 3G licences continues - or does it? Not for the Singaporeans, it seems, as the top three bidders have decided not to bother with the auction and have carved up the airwaves up between them. The four third-generation licences were due to go under the hammer until one of the bidders pulled out, leaving the fourth licence without a bidder. This meant that the Singapore telecoms regulator Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) was left to award the remaining licences to the interested parties, namely Singapore Telecom Mobile, StarHub Mobile and Mobile One, for the minimum auction price of $58 million. ...more

Dell intros networked storage for SMEs

Dell has introduced its first networked storage system for small and medium sized businesses, the EMC AX100. Whereas most storage area network (SAN) systems require a Fibre Channel network, by using iSCSI technology Dell enables businesses to incorporate the SAN into existing IP networks, which, the company says, can cut the cost of a complete entry-level SAN by up to 50 per cent.
