HP unveils mid-market disk backup

Aimed at small businesses, HP has launched a disk-based backup and recovery system, which it claims will make protection and disaster recovery more reliable and affordable. The HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System is, according to the company, at least 50 per cent cheaper than competing systems and can be integrated into existing network-based IT environments. The company said that restoring lost or corrupted files would be easier on the new systems as backup data is stored online, where is can be retrieved in minutes instead of hours. ...more

Acer has announced a raft of new products, renewing its commitment to the Tablet PC format with a new 'sliding' mechanism that draws the screen back across the keyboard and tilts it up in a single action. The C200 Tablet PC notebook series is a Sonoma-based Centrino affair with dual-channel system memory support up to 2GB, dual-layer DVD burning, nVidia graphics, WiFi and Bluetooth wireless and of course Microsoft's Tablet PC platform. 'Virtual' BlackBerry software planned for Windows Mobile smartphones

Research In Motion has announced plans to introduce software that will turn a Windows Mobile-based smartphone into a 'virtual BlackBerry'. RIM says that it plans to begin shipping the new application suite later this year for select devices based on Windows Mobile 6. It will provide support for BlackBerry email, phone, calendar, address book, tasks, memos, browser, instant messaging and other applications that it has developed for its BlackBerry platform. ...more
