RealNetworks makes mobile moves

RealNetworks has made moves to put its RealSystem iQ content delivery system at the forefront of new mobile technologies. It has today joined the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as a voting member and the packet-switched multimedia specification group, SA4, confirming its intention to play a prominent role in the emerging third-generation mobile markets. Apple is co-sponsoring a competition for budding film makers to make a video for Moby's version of New York, New York. Together with EMI and U-MYX, Apple is inviting video submissions that will then be hosted on U-MYX's Moby mini-site where others can view, comment on and rate it. Oracle accused of insider trading

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has been accused of illegally selling shares in the company knowing they'd soon be devalued after the software firm's third-quarter results were published. San Diego law practice Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes and Lerach has filed the suit on behalf of Local 144 Nursing Home Pension Fund which, according to reports, bought 50,000 Oracle shares only to see them devalue by more than 50 per cent after the third quarter report. The class-action suit is open to anyone who purchased Oracle shares between 15 December 2000 and 1 March 2001. ...more

Microsoft plays down virulence of Plug and Play Zotob worm attack

A worm that exploits the new Microsoft MS05-039 'plug and play' security vulnerability is the latest online threat to grab the headlines. In the latest case this is literally true, as media outlets such as CNN, ABC, The Financial Times, and the New York Times have been high profile victims of the attack. OSDL seeks to fund gaps in open-source development

The Open Source Development Labs is setting up a fund to promote impoverished projects The fund is the first fruit of the recently formed technical advisory board (TAB). It will initially focus funding on projects that would help fill technology 'gaps' where more development is needed.
