SCO accuses IBM of delaying tactics

SCO has filed a document in its ongoing litigation against IBM that alleges Big Blue is using delaying tactics to withhold vital evidence from SCO. In a memo that was filed to support its bid to have the Judge force IBM to hand over documents that would help build SCO's prosecution it alleges that IBM is being deliberately unhelpful in meeting SCO's requests 'Had IBM properly answered this request a year ago, when required, [it] would have provided direct evidence relating to the heart of the claims at issue in this case,' it reads. Yahoo! follows Google into the research labs

Yahoo! has announced the formation of research labs to develop new Web search technologies. The labs will look at ways in which Yahoo!'s position as the most visited site on the Internet can be exploited, both to increase its popularity and to commercially exploit it. The project, said Farzad Nazem, Yahoo!'s executive vice president and chief technology officer, is 'dedicated to inventive computer science solutions that will help make the Internet experience more efficient, productive, individualised, and even more entertaining. ...more

MySpace founder charges News Corp with undervaluing social networking giant

The founder of MySpace has called for an enquiry into the social networking site's sale to News Corp., labelling it 'one of the largest mergers and acquisitions scandals in US history'. Brad Greenspan, who made $47 million from the 2005 deal, claims on his Free MySpace website that Rupert Murdoch's media company paid much less then they knew MySpace was worth. ...more

MSN takes on PressPlay

Microsoft has made a deal with Vivendi Universal and Sony to put budding music-download-service Pressplay on the Microsoft Network. The deal is part of the ongoing war between record companies to get subscription-based Net music services onto as many PCs as possible. The involvement of Microsoft will no doubt be a blow to EMI, AOL/Time Warner, Bertlesmann, Real Networks and Napster, who are working together on a similar project called MusicNet. ...more

PalmSource invites Linux developers `come and join us`.

PalmSource has bought mobile phone software developer China MobileSoft with a view to developing a version of Palm OS Cobalt that will run on Linux in mobile devices. Mike Kelly, the Vice President Engineering at PalmSource Inc has written an open letter to the Linux community announcing that Palm Cobalt is to run on top of the Linux operating system. The company has done so, he says, because it believes that Linux is set to become `a leading operating system for mobile devices`. ...more
