Google wants its MTV

Ever since YouTube announced earlier this week that it was in negotiations with the big music companies to put every music video ever made on its service, there has been a flurry of activity as rival music video publishers and online video sharing communities have rushed into each other's arms. Google and MTV have begun a flirtation by signing a deal to distribute MTV clips through the Google network. The Official Google blog says that clips from MTV and its associated channels such as VH1, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central will start appearing on a site near you that is part of Google's AdSense programme. ...more

Industry giants combine to promote DVB-H

The market for TV on mobiles is hotting up further with the announcement of a new industry body to promote the DVB-H format for delivering video to mobile devices. The Mobile DTV Alliance consists of some of the biggest players in mobile and wireless communications including Intel, Motorola, Nokia and Texas Instruments. The companies say they are planning to promote the use of the open standard amongst mobile operators, which will allow subscribers to receive streamed TV and video to their mobile devices whilst keeping the bandwidth free to receive voice and data communications. ...more

iBook speeds up to 700MHz

Apple has completed its recent round of product updates, with the announcement of a new range of iBooks. The consumer portable Macs now uses G3 processors running at up to 700MHz, and feature improved graphics chips to take full advantage of the next release of Mac OS X. The new entry-level iBook will use a 600MHz G3 processor, and have a 20Gb hard disk, up from 15Gb in its predecessor. ...more
