EMI under scrutiny as DRM drop test kicks off

EMI is taking a risk in being the first major music label to ditch anti-piracy software on its digital music, but larger rivals might be better placed to reap the rewards. The music industry has used Digital Rights Management or DRM as the cornerstone in its fight against illegal downloading but its critics argue that it imposes too many restrictions on the consumer and therefore hinders legal digital sales. EFF fights US gov over flight passenger data

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed suit against the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over the gathering of data on passengers taking flights between Europe and the US. The civil rights body had asked the DHS for records on how the process is handled, including how the data is maintained, used, disclosed, and secured, under the Freedom of Information Act.
