Apple CEO Steve Jobs has made a rare visit to the UK, appearing in London to receive the company's latest batch of Design and Art Direction Awards Jobs was joined by Apple's design chief Jonathan Ive to receive a Gold Award for the iPod and Silver Awards for the PowerBook and iBook. Google cast as Internet bully

Search King has taken out a lawsuit against Google, alleging that the company is penalising competitors. The search engine optimisation company claims that Google 'arbitrarily' reduced the ranking for Search King and its related sites, thereby reducing the value of the company and the service it provided to advertisers. The lawsuit brought by the president of Search King alleges that Google 'arbitrarily and purposefully devalued his companies' and his customers' Web sites, causing his business to suffer financially'. ...more

FireWire body gives nod to aerial cable-based home networks

The 1394 Trade Association, which oversees the FireWire standard, has demonstrated how the technology can be used to create home networks over existing coax cables. Together with the the High Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance (HANA), the association showed how the technology, known as 1394 over coax via UWB, can use existing home coax (aerial cables) to connect HDTVs, personal video recorders, DVD players, multimedia PCs, set-top boxes and network attached storage devices and others. James Snider, executive director of the 1394 Trade Association, said that FireWire's guaranteed quality of service content protection mechanisms are maintained without any need to modify existing coax infrastructure with throughput exceeding the capabilities of other technologies. ...more
