BBC to add subtitles to Internet telly

The BBC has announced that is to begin testing a system for adding optional subtitles to online broadcasts. A five week trial will run on Click Online, News 24's popular technology programme and will use new software that accesses the subtitling files from the original TV broadcast. Anti-semitic site falls off the Google rankings

The anti-semitic website 'Jew Watch' has disappeared from the pages of Google. Because of the adverse publicity the site's web hosting company EV1 had terminated the owner's contract and taken it down. As a result, Google says, it's web spiders could no longer crawl the site and it therefore no longer officially exists. ...more

The world's favourite search engine has published a list of the most searched terms in 2002. Britney Spears has been knocked off her perch as #1 female by JoLo and the World Cup was the most popular news story with England's David Beckham being the most searched for sportsman in the world. Microsoft offers enterprises time out patch for IE's Eolas legal tweak

Microsoft has confirmed that it is going ahead with the scheduled 'update' of Internet Explorer that will bring the browser into compliance with the Eolas ruling. However, the company says that it will also issue a 'compatibility patch' (deployed like a hotfix) that allows customers to turn off the change until the 2 June security update cycle The delay has apparently been made at the request of Enterprise customers who have their own ActiveX controls built into their systems and need extra time to resolve compatibility issues. Nokia ships the 7610 video phone

Nokia has begun shipping its new 7610 camera phone throughout Europe. It claims that the new device can capture, print, edit, store and send both still images and videos. The new device enables its owner to record up to 10 minutes of video which can be edited via the built in Movie Director software. ...more
