Government inquiry into BBC online advertising

The BBC is facing a Government inquiry, launched by culture secretary, Chris Smith, who has appointed a watchdog to investigate whether the BBC's online sector is competing fairly in the market. The problem centres around the fact that BBC sites which carry advertising can comprise content sourced from the BBC's traditional media, essentially meaning that licence-payers' money is subsidising the sites and giving them an unfair advantage over rival information-based Web sites. Apple applies for mouse, scroll pad patents

Apple has applied for a new patent for a 'Mouse having a rotary dial'. The patent describes a mouse where the main body is replaced by a rotating, tilting wheel, which in addition to the usual clickability, provides the ability to scroll backwards and forwards through documents. As the technoblurb introducing the application puts it, the user can manipulate the disc side to side for horizontal scrolling and backwards and forwards for vertical scrolling. ...more
