Low power Pentiums draw less than 1 Watt

Intel has released a series of low-power mobile processors for notebooks which feature Intel's power saving SpeedStep technology. The Ultra Low Voltage mobile PIII, which Intel claims is the world's lowest power PC processor, runs at 600Mhz at full stretch, but cuts down to 300Mhz in battery optimised mode, drawing around half a Watt in power and less than one Volt. Profitability stays out of reach for AMD

A growth in sales and reduced costs have not proved enough to get AMD back in the black, according to its latest quarterly financial report. The company reported a net loss of $140mn for the three months ending 29 June, 2003. UK games chart: Need for Speed is Most Wanted

EA's multi-format street racing game Need For Speed: Most Wanted stays atop this week's ELSPA UK games chart, and it is heading towards the Christmas number one. Although EA's soccer game FIFA 06 climbs another place, up from three to two, the most likely threats come from Activision's console war game Call of Duty 2: Big Red One - which climbs from six to three - and King Kong: Official Game of The Movie, Ubisoft's multi-format movie spin-off - which climbs from eight to four. Network Telecom Europe 2002: Mutiny on the network

UK company Mutiny has partnered with Toshiba to provide a network monitoring device. Described as a 'plug and ping' 24x7 system, the sub-?10,000 network-monitoring appliance is designed to be a simple low-cost system for minimising network downtimes. With Mutiny's software designed to be run on the new Toshiba Magnia SG20 mini-server (which is about the size of a set-top box), the system provides real time graphical displays and reports of network hardware and application status. ...more
