Software makes 2D into 3D

A UK-based company has released a software package that can generate 3D models straight from photographs. D-Vision Works has announced its D Sculptor package, which can make photo realistic 3D models of a range of objects using a set of photographs. UPDATED: Playfair cracks iTunes DRM protection

The digital rights management technology that Apple uses to restrict the copying of songs bought from its iTunes Music Store has been cracked. An anonymous programmer has released software called Playfair that takes one of the iTMS AAC files, decodes it using a key obtained from an iPod or Microsoft Windows system and then writes the new, decoded version to disk as a regular AAC Audio File. Teenage virus author gets probation for two years

A teenage virus author has been put on probation for two years after being convicted of writing Magold-A. The teenager, from Hungary and who goes under the nickname Laszlo K, was caught after it was discovered he had used his personal email addresses to send out some of the initial infected emails. Office 2007 launch date slips

Microsoft has admitted that Office 2007 is running behind schedule. Earlier this year, Microsoft promised that the new version of the productivity suite would ship to volume customers in October 2006 with retail availability in January 2007 - roughly in line with the current release schedule for the Vista operating system.
