Gates predicts that within two years the move to 64bit computing will pretty much be done In his keynote at yesterdays' Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) 2004 conference Microsoft's Chief Software Architect Bill Gates said: 'between now and the end of 2005, we'll go from having very few 64-bit chips out there to virtually 100 percent what AMD ships, and the majority of what Intel ships within less than two years will be 64-bit capable chips.' EC hints at fresh moves against Microsoft

The European Commission has hinted that it may bring a fresh case against Microsoft after receiving new complaints about the company. But EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said that the Commission would wait for the result of Microsoft's appeal against the first penalties imposed after the first investigation into anti-competitive behaviour before deciding whether to press ahead. 'We have had informal complaints, and we are using our time now to look at them,' Kroes said. ...more

Intel regroups its communications businesses

Intel is regrouping its communications-related businesses into a single organisation - the Intel Communications Group (ICG). Previously its work in networking and handheld-focused areas had been divided between ICG and the Wireless Communications and Computing Group (WCCG). Intel releases new Xeon heavyweight server processors
