Security switched on for latest Windows CE release

Microsoft has taken the lid of the latest version of its operating system for mobile and embedded devices at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco. Windows CE 5.0 goes under the codename Macallan and Microsoft today unveiled a preview kit for developers to help speed their work in getting the operating system into devices such as PDAs, mobile phones, set-top boxes and cash machines. ...more

Novell acquires Ximian

Novell has acquired Ximian, the Boston-based company that is a force in the Open Source world. The move is intended to drive Novell's growth into the Linux arena and the company believes it is buying 'best-of-breed Linux desktop, groupware and management technologies'. Ximian is best known for its work with the Mono and GNOME projects, and Novell has promised continuing support for these ventures. ...more
