Nokia unveils first NFC phone

Mobile phone giant Nokia has unveiled its first product to incorporate the NFC (Near Field Communication) shell. Backed by Nokia, Philips and Sony, NFC is a new wireless communications function which is hoped to extend the capability of the mobile phone to becoming a personal identification device. Online gambling ads face crackdown

The Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell warned online gambling companies to clean up their act when it came to advertising. Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the British Casino Association she said that she was concerned by the increase in potentially illegal advertising for the online gambling operators and warned that any company caught flouting the laws would be prosecuted. Under the Gaming Act of 1968 it is illegal for an advert to offer any incentive, inducement or encouragement to gamble. ...more

Borland warns of loss on Q1 earnings

Software developer Borland has warned the markets that it expects to post a loss for the first quarter of 2003. The warning comes ahead of the full results which are expected at the end of April The company says it expects revenue for the first quarter to be in the range of $72 to $75 million, an increase of 26 per cent to 31 per cent over revenue of $57.1 million reported for the first quarter of 2002, but below the company's previous target of $77 - $83 million. ...more
