Apple releases updated developer tools

Apple has released an updated set of its Xcode developers' tools, introducing around a dozen new features. Those features include: dead-code stripping; remote debugging; gcc 3.3 improvments for speed and -fast robustness; code completion for Java and AppleScript; subversion source-code control system support; native build system support for AppleScript; enhanced debugger with memory and globals browsers as well as the ability to display file static variables; faster editor performance; Ant templates; and documentation bookmarks. ...more

Technology is a girl's best friend

Technology has usurped diamonds as a girl's best friend, according to a survey by US cable TV channel, Oxygen Network. The survey found that 77 per cent of women surveyed would prefer a new plasma television to a diamond solitaire necklace and 56 per cent prefer it to a weekend trip to Florida. 'People make the assumption that women are not as advanced as men when it comes to technology and I was surprised at the parity men and women now have in terms of technology," Geraldine Laybourne, chairman and chief executive of Oxygen Network, told Reuters. ...more

UPDATED: iPod mini release put back to July

Apple has announced that the iPod mini will not be available outside the US until July, following higher-than-expected demand. Demand in the US for the portable music player exceeds the total planned supply from now through to the end of June. 'The iPod mini is a huge hit with customers in the US and we're sure it will be the same worldwide once we can ramp up our supply in the July quarter,' explained Tim Cook, Apple's executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations. ...more
