Microsoft fights back over iPod virus claims

Microsoft has said Apple, not Windows, was to blame when a number of iPods were infected by a virus last month. Sasser author finds gainful employment

The 18 year old accused of unleashing the Sasser worm on the world has been hired by a security firm. In a fine example of poacher turning gamekeeper, Sven Jaschan, who caused chaos in the world's computer systems earlier this year has been hired by northern German outfit Securepoint with a view to train him up to be a security software coder. Google Maps gives Europe a good going over

Google has extended its street maps, driving directions and integrated local search service into mainland Europe. Google Maps now covers France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. UPDATED: SuSE goes to Novell for $210mn

Novell has acquired Linux vendor SuSE for $210mn in cash, helped by a $50mn hand from IBM. The deal, still subject to regulatory approval, will make Novell the only $1bn software company with its own Linux distro and mean it is also the world's largest supplier of 'desktop-to-server' Linux solutions.
