UK games charts: FIFA still on top

Still football mad after all these years; while Pro Evolution 3's fiercely loyal following can only keep the PS2 title at tenth place in the charts, the glitz and glamour of FIFA 2004 ensures that the title retains the number one spot for a fourth consecutive week. Activision's True Crime improves upon last week's early showing, rising from number three to number two, while Nintendo's corking Mario Kart: Double Dash puts in a strong showing at number three. EA's Lord of the Rings: Return of The King is the other major new entry at number four; elsewhere there's not a phenomenal amount of change, though Harry Potter spin off Quidditch World Cup manages to leap from 19 to a more impressive eighth place in the charts. ...more

mmO2 to share 3G burden with T-Mobile

The European Commission has cleared proposed 3G network sharing agreements for mmO2 and T-Mobile. The agreements were filed for approval early this year and the Commission found that the benefits of sharing network elements would lead to a faster network roll out without impacting on competition. Competition Commissioner Mario Monti said: 'Such co-operation deals can bring benefits for the consumer in terms of a faster introduction of new services, more competition and a lesser impact to the environment. ...more

Acrobat 5 announced

Adobe has unveiled the latest version of Acrobat, its PDF creation package. Heralding the age of electronic "network publishing", Adobe has targeted the upgrade at business IT users as well as at the traditional printing and publishing markets. At the recent UK press launch, the company revealed that although around 80 per cent of business documents are forms, approximately 70 per cent of these remain paper based. ...more

Spam rules mean opt-out is out

The DTI has unveiled new controls that update legislation on spam sent via email, phone or from the Internet. Communications Minister Stephen Timms said: 'These regulations will help combat the global nuisance of unsolicited e-mails and texts by enshrining in law rights that give consumers more say over who can use their personal details.. ...more
