Apple confirms new Mac specs on the way

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been detailing features of some forthcoming, as-yet unnamed new machines in Apple's line-up. In his treatise on Apple's environmental policy, which directly answers many of the criticisms levelled at the company by campaign groups such as Greenpeace, he explained a range of changes the company would be making to machines appearing later in 2007. Linux goes 64-bit for PowerPC

The only company licensed to supply Macs with Linux pre-installed expects to ship a 64-bit version on Power Mac G5s before the end of May. Terra Soft Solutions 64-bit version of Yellow Dog Linux will be called Y-HPC, and is built upon Red Hat's RPM-based Fedora. Crazy Frog company fined ?40,000

The company that has inflicted the 'Crazy Frog' ringtone on the world has been fined ?40,000. The premium phone rate watchdog ICSTIS imposed the fine on mBlox after a Hearing Panel found that customers who thought they were making a one off payment for the ringtone were, in fact, signing up to a five pound a week subscription service. ICSTIS says it has received 338 complaints about the service from customers who claim they were duped into signing up for a subscription. ...more

Tosh offer out-of-the-box ?400 hot-spot

Toshiba has launched its ?399 hot-spot-in-a-box product, designed to make wirelessly enabling public spaces more commercially viable. The wireless router can be attached to any broadband connection - be it DSL, cable or ISDN - as it has a range of interfaces, including Ethernet. It is also hooked into a billing system provided by Accenture, and Toshiba provides free help-desk support. ...more
