HP backs Open Source with research technology

HP has thrown its weight behind the Open Source movement, making an important part of its R&D available to the world of collaborative development. Macs turn around UK school

Apple is trumpeting the change in fortunes of a school in Hampshire after it equipped a new building with a complete Mac-based IT infrastructure. Wildren School has seen the pass rate for five or more A* to C grades rise from 38 per cent of pupils to 86 per cent, and headteacher Jeffery Threlfall says that it is the Macs that have made the difference. Indie labels close in on iTunes deal

A spokesperson for the Association of Independent Music (AIM) has said that a number of key independent music labels were close to an accord with Apple that would make their music catalogues available through iTunes. The spokesperson said that a number of indie labels 'look like signing a deal within days'. Talks between Apple and indie record labels broke down prior to the European launch of iTunes, which left some sizeable gaps in the iTunes offering - bands such as The White Stripes and Franz Ferdinand are absent from the service. ...more
