Docklands Linx claims new world record

East London's London Internet Exchange (Linx)now has more throughput than the largest exchanges in either the US or Japan, making it the world's biggest. The facility, which hosts and peers Britain's internet traffic is now claiming throughput of 40Gb of data per second at peak times with its eight routing suites handling total traffic of 55Gbit per second. The 55Gb per second number comes from the 40 gigabits being passed on the Linx exchange and some 15 gigabits that is being shunted around the exchange through private peering connections. ...more

AMD announces tablet chips

High performance notebooks and tablet PCs are addressed by two new mobile processors from AMD. The tablet PC has yet to take off, but AMD will be hoping that changes with its new Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+. David Bowie, eBay and Flickr lead winners of annual Webby awards

David Bowie and eBay starred on Tuesday alongside photo-sharing website Flickr and a blog of cute animals as winners of the Webby Awards, the leading international honour for Web content. Winners of the 11th annual Webbys, dubbed 'the Oscars of the Internet,' were chosen from a record 8,000 entries from 60 countries by 400,000 public votes and a panel of 80 Web experts to recognise excellence in about 100 different categories. 'Our goal is to honour all the work on the Web,' David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webbys which are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Science, told Reuters. ...more

Organic Flat Panels

Dai Nippon Printing has announced it has developed a process to manufacture flat-panel displays that uses plastics and will result in cheaper and faster production. Current processes for manufacturing organic electroluminescent displays (OELs) use glass. The plastic process would mean lighter and more durable screens, perfect for mobile devices such as mobile phones, which are also the products that low-power OEL screens are targeted at. ...more
