New anti-trust judge makes first order

The new judge in the Microsoft anti-trust case has made her first ruling, but it is only to set the timetable for a status meeting on the case. Newly-appointed District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, has ordered the two sides to report on the remaining issues by 14 September and set a meeting on the status of the case for the following week. Microsoft backs DVB-H

Software giant Microsoft is joining the newly formed Mobile DTV Alliance. The organisation is an umbrella grouping of a number of industry heavyweights to promote the development of broadcast digital TV on mobile devices via the Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) format in North America. Digital art faces digital dark age

Although a growing number of artists use computers to create digital works of art, the ever changing nature of technology hardware means their digital visions could face obsolescence in just a few years. 'I often joke with my students that digital media will last forever - or for five years, whichever comes first,' said Richard Rinehart, digital media director at the Berkeley university's Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive. 'Every mobile phone user will own a laptop' claims Intel

An Intel spokesman has claimed that one day, 'virtually every mobile phone user will own a laptop', citing the 'insatiable' demand for the Internet as the reason. The striking claim was made by Sean Maloney, the chief sales and marketing officer for Intel, during a keynote speech at HP's Mobility Summit in Shanghai.
