Online profiles damage careers - survey

Whether it is drunken party pics posted on Flickr or expletive-filled MySpace pages, your previous online postings may come back to haunt you and your career, a YouGov survey has found. A fifth of employers have looked up prospective recruits online, with over half of them saying it affected their decision to hire the person, said respondents to the survey of 2,447 internet users and 600 companies, commissioned by business networking firm Viadeo. Microsoft has delivered its batch of security bulletins for January. The latest 'Patch Tuesday' has seen the release of three fixes flagged as 'Critical'. Sony unveils first video Walkmans

Sony has unveiled a range of video-enabled Walkmans, its first attempt to encroach on the compact smaller handheld video market pioneered by the likes of Creative and Apple. AMD has demonstrated a PDA using its Alchemy Au1100 processor and running a Linux-based OS at LinuxWorld in San Francisco. The processor offers low power consumption and plenty of features with its system-on-a-chip design.
