PalmPalm launch Linux mobile phone

Following on from the Linux and Bluetooth watch, it seems to be Linux with everything, as the Korean company PalmPalm announces the world's first Linux mobile phone. The IMT-2000 smartphone has been developed with SK Telecom Ltd and Seoul National University. Microsoft injects Sega with Xtra hope

Sega has been left feeling vindicated in its decision to concentrate on software with the annoncement from Microsoft today that its Xbox console will launch with 11 Sega titles in Autumn. Sega games including Sega GT 2 and Panzer Dragoon will accompany the console's launch in Japan and the USA. The company will also supply titles to Xbox's more established rival, Sony's PS2. ...more

Intel goes 64-bit for MMX for mobiles

With the boom in 3G phones and video streaming to mobile devices showing no sign of abating, Intel has said that it has developed a new version of its MMX multimedia technology for mobile devices. The new version, Wireless MMX2, offers 64-bit extensions to improve video streaming and offer better battery life to a new generation of mobile phones. MMX2 is a set of 64-bit Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions similar to the Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) that Intel introduced for the x86 instruction set. ...more
