Colour costs scare off businesses

A survey by Ricoh has shown that more than half of businesses polled restricted use of colour printing and copying because of what they deem the higher cost. Fifty-five per cent of businesses polled would increase the use of colour printing and copying, but that same percentage place restrictions on these activities, mainly because of financial reasons. However, only 10 per cent of small and medium-sized businesses made use of multifunction devices, instead laying out for separate printers and copying and picking up the higher running costs that come with it, or even getting colour work done out of house. ...more

Nokia stock rises on Cisco links

Nokia shares were up sharply this morning after a UK newspaper suggested that the phone maker is being eyed by Cisco. Sunday Business claimed that the network and communications hardware giant is on the lookout for a wireless infrastructure company, with the Finnish outfit identified as the most likely target. The paper said that Cisco, faced with the increasing convergence of fixed line and wireless services, needs technology to create intelligent wireless applications, technology that Nokia could provide. ...more

Jobs in London for design awards

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has made a rare visit to the UK, appearing in London to receive the company's latest batch of Design and Art Direction Awards Jobs was joined by Apple's design chief Jonathan Ive to receive a Gold Award for the iPod and Silver Awards for the PowerBook and iBook. He also gave a rare TV interview, to BBC News 24, and defended the company's five per cent market share, pointing out that it is greater than Mercedes or BMW could claim for the car market. He added that, 'The great thing is when you have five per cent market share, all you have to do is convince another five out of the other 95 per cent to switch and you have doubled your market share. ...more
