Berners-Lee blasts US Copyright Office

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, has taken issue with the US Copyright Office over its insistence that certain online forms can only be submitted using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. In an open letter from the W3C which seeks to establish standards for web usage, Lee says that restricting submissions to a single browser is not only against the whole spirit in which the world wide web is established, it is also against the spirit of Federal Information policy. MySpace confronts YouTube

Changes made to the MySpace site over the weekend are perhaps the first sign that Rupert Murdoch intends to make good his claim to 'crush YouTube in 60 -70 days'. The MySpace home page has now acquired four new links in the prime top left hand corner displaying links to popular MySpace videos. Microsoft claims EU censure could mean substandard Windows

Microsoft has insisted that if the EU rules that Windows Media Player must be removed from PCs it will result in a 'substandard' Windows. Giving evidence at the European Commissions enquiry into alleged anti-competitive practices, the company 'ruled out removing Media Player from Windows as part of any settlement', according to Reuters. Microsoft's hardline stance would appear to make an out-of-court settlement unlikely. ...more
